Private passage

Up the lake, and back again.

Private passage on Lake Chelan for owners and their guests, and for travellers bound for the landings, boat-in camps and trailheads up the lake. Always private, never shared, and arranged around your plans.

Getting up the lake has always meant fitting someone else's day: the ferry's hours, the long drive, a borrowed boat and a hope for calm water.

A private passage fits yours. You tell us when and where. We bring the boat to you, carry you safely, and come back for you when you're ready to leave.

Who we carry

Owners

Up for the weekend with bags, groceries and the dog, met at the landing and brought to your own dock.

Guests

Family and friends brought up to join you, so nobody has to drive the long way round or wait for the ferry.

Your people

The contractor, the housekeeper, the photographer: people you've asked to be there, brought to your dock and home again.

Travellers

Campers, hikers and paddlers bound for the boat-in camps and trailheads, with every pack, cooler and board they're bringing.

Also, on request:

Up to six passengers and their luggage · dogs welcome · USCG-licensed Master

Dropped off, and collected when you're ready.

Much of the upper lake is reached only by water: the boat-in campgrounds, the trailheads, the quiet beaches. We carry you, your party and the whole pile, from packs and coolers to boards and bikes, and set you ashore where you're going.

Then we come back for you on the day you choose, weather permitting. No fitting around anyone else's day, and nobody else aboard.

When plans change, call us.

Weather turns. A flight moves. Someone needs to leave early. Call, and we'll work out how and when to get them home. Weather, safety and our availability come first, and we never put anyone at risk to keep a plan.

Staying up the lake for a few days? We can check in on you while you're there, so someone knows where you are and how it's going.

Stehekin, on request.

Stehekin is a long way up the lake, and getting there is a real undertaking. We go on request, subject to current conditions.

We can get you there quickly when it matters, wait while you visit, or come back for you after a night or two. Stehekin trips are quoted by the day.

How a passage works

Nothing runs on a fixed schedule. Every passage is arranged for you, and it goes only when the water says it should.

I · Ask

Tell us who's travelling, where from, where to, roughly when, and what's coming along.

II · Confirm

We confirm the time, the landing and the conditions, and quote the trip.

III · Go

We check the weather again on the day. If it isn't right, we tell you early and find another time.

We reply personally, usually the same day.

Our black cabin boat with red stripes, moored over clear emerald water

Why the boat matters

Fifty miles of water, big weather and no help at the far end. Overexposed carries enough fuel to get there and back with a quarter of the tank to spare. She sees in the dark with radar and thermal cameras, and she keeps everyone inside, warm and dry.
