Welcome to 25 North
Welcome to 25 North.
This is a lake-conditions briefing for the people who live, work, and worry about the upper half of Lake Chelan: everything north of 25 Mile Creek, where there are no roads and the weather makes its own rules.
What lands in your inbox
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, around 7am:
- The Call. One line. Boat day up-lake. Stay home. Check your dock lines.
- Wind. What the lake's actually doing, translated into decisions.
- Lake level. The gauge number, translated into what it means for your dock.
- Freeze & snow. Timing for those of you watching from the west side.
- Lake watch. What we see from the boat: debris, broken signage, the things that need to find their owners.
- One thing to know. A rotating topic: batteries, winterization, reading lake wind.
Who's writing this
It matters up lake, so I'll say it plainly: I don't live on the lake - yet. I'm not going to pretend I know what it's like to winter at Stehekin or nurse a generator through a January blow. I'm a newcomer but not new to the water. I'm a Tolowa tribal member from down the coast, built a boat for photography and trips, and I spend a lot of hours up-lake - I'll earn my place the only way that counts: by being useful. I hope that providing an easy update finds its way into your inbox and stays there.
This briefing serves the lake community. It doesn't claim to speak for it.
Reply to any issue. I read every one.
See you Monday morning.

Know someone with a place up-lake? Forward this. The briefing only works if the right people are reading it.
Readings in each issue come from the National Weather Service and USGS. Observations are from the boat.
